NJ DDD Respite

Caregivers need a break too. Respite makes that possible.

Respite gives family caregivers short, planned time off while a trained staff member supports their loved one. It is a service in New Jersey's DDD Supports Program and Community Care Program, and we provide it in Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Monmouth and Ocean counties.

How respite works

Short, planned support so you can rest or handle life

For the caregiver

Rest, work, a medical appointment of your own, time with your other children. Respite exists so you can keep going.

For your loved one

Familiar routines kept in place by a trained staff member who knows the plan.

Within the plan

Respite is added to the Individualized Service Plan by your support coordinator and paid through your loved one's DDD program.

How to start

Three steps to your first break

Ask your support coordinator

Ask for respite in the plan and name Priority Group Services NJ as the provider, or send us a referral.

Tell us what you need

Dates, times, routines, and anything the staff member must know to keep your loved one comfortable.

Take the break

We confirm the staff member before the visit and check in afterwards.

If Priority Group Services NJ is already your support coordination agency, DDD's conflict-free rules mean your coordinator will help you choose another respite provider.
